jQuery beautifier and code formatter examples
The beautifier provides HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, PHP, and mixed HTML-with-PHP modes. Beautify is for readable layout; Minify is for a compact output. Keep an original and compare the result before putting it into a project. Formatting is not a substitute for a compiler, application tests, or a repository's configured formatter.
Beautify jQuery code
Open the jQuery beautifier, select Try a sample and choose Beautify. jQuery is JavaScript that calls the jQuery library; this mode formats the code without executing it or loading your application.
$(function(){ $("#example").on("click",function(){ $(this).text("Ready"); }); });The output separates the ready handler, click handler and text update into readable lines. Copy or download the result, then test it in your own application with its required jQuery version.
Format PHP and mixed HTML templates
Use the PHP beautifier for PHP source. Choose HTML with PHP when the file contains both markup and PHP tags. PHP formatting uses the server without executing the submitted source. Keep a separate original and review string literals and templates after formatting.
For a runnable example, see PHP CSV export and file download with fputcsv or the PHP/AJAX search demo. JavaScript Fetch and jQuery AJAX are different APIs; choose the mode matching the code you paste.
Start with a harmless snippet
function greet(name){return "Hello, "+name;}Choose JavaScript and Beautify, then inspect the structure in Output. Copy uses that output field. In jQuery mode, provide JavaScript code that calls the library; jQuery is not a separate programming language. For HTML, a small nested list makes it easier to check the indentation than a complete unfamiliar template.
Match the whole input to a mode
Choose HTML with PHP only when PHP appears inside the template. PHP and mixed templates are processed on the server; some HTML minification paths also use server processing. Client JavaScript and CSS modes load their formatting libraries when needed, so an interrupted connection or blocked dependency can prevent an action. Do not paste credentials or private configuration values to test formatting.
Understand the limits of simple transformations
The current CSS and server-side minifiers use simpler transformations than a full production toolchain. Whitespace in quoted strings, preformatted HTML, template delimiters, and special comments can matter. Review those regions deliberately and use the project's trusted build tools for production assets. A shorter output is not proof that runtime behavior has been preserved.
Start with a sample and keep the original
Each language has a small sample. Open a UTF-8 file up to 1 MB, run an action, and copy or download the result. Browser formatter libraries are hosted by Toolzify rather than a third-party CDN. JavaScript syntax errors include a line and column where available. TypeScript and JSX need a dedicated formatter. CSS compaction keeps quoted strings, comments and the spaces in values; it is deliberately conservative.
A review checklist
- Keep a working copy separate from the original.
- Select the exact language and action.
- Inspect names, strings, comments, and delimiters in the output.
- Compare the diff in an editor.
- Run the project's syntax and behavior checks before accepting the change.
Formatting a snippet does not execute that snippet as an application. It also does not establish that it is safe code. Do not run an unfamiliar output simply because it has neat indentation.
Report a useful failure
Provide the selected mode, action, a fictional minimal input, and the observed output or error. For strict JSON or XML validation, use the dedicated JSON and XML tools rather than guessing a code mode.
